A poem-a-day for National Poetry Month

Commit

What does it mean to make a commitment to poem-a-day?

It means:

  1. That every day for the month of April, 2011, you will attempt to write a single poem every day. You can post your poem beneath our daily prompts, post it on your own website and just put a link here, or just write it in private and never show it to anyone. Everything else is up to you.
  2. There is no way to fail. If you’re thinking about poetry, writing poetry, reading poetry or just getting involved here in the poetry community, you’re already succeeding.
  3. Please help up spread the word! Poetry is an important, over overlooked part of seeing and sharing the world — we want to get as many people involved as we can.

Here at Not Without Poetry, we’ll provide the daily prompts, the inspiration, the platform for community. What you have to do is provide the words, every day, for 30 days.

Are you ready to make the commitment to poem-a-day?

Sign in the comments below to get started. You can find the daily prompts here (typically posted at midnight EST) or you can sign up in the sidebar to receive them.

Welcome, poet!

  1. I’m in. Of course. Let’s see if I can kill myself again with 30 poems in 30 days!

Ok. I hold you responsible for any ensuing nervous breakdown, tho, S.

    Xxx

    And thank you! : )

    March 23, 2011 at 11:16 am

    • Yah! Poems from you make me have breakdowns too. The good kind 😛

      March 23, 2011 at 11:42 am

  3. I’m in!

I don’t promise they will be *good* poems, since many of them will be written on my lunch breaks at work. But bad poems can become good poems, right>

    March 23, 2011 at 11:52 am

  4. That would be a question mark, not a >, at the end of my comment.

Someday I will learn to proof comments before I send them.

    March 23, 2011 at 11:54 am

    • Ha! Nice to have you on board. Three cheers for poetic license!

    I’m in.

I won’t commit to their being good, or proper (certainly not that), or even comprehensible to anyone but me.

    But I’m in!

    March 23, 2011 at 12:17 pm

    • Hurray, hurray, Bill! I was hoping you’d take on this challenge 😛

I asked Lj to sign up she said “What’s shanna giving us if we do the 30 days?”

    LOL

    March 24, 2011 at 1:13 pm

    • Well, ReadWritePoem did an anthology of poems by all of those who did all 30 days. But they had an organization, and I just have me. So… nothing 🙂

Although if I had more time, I would get people to donate poetry books or something and raffle them off to people who finished 30 poems. Anyone want to take that on? -hinthint-

  60. erm, kinda been in since the first, but didn’t realize you had a “commit” page. The more times I commit, the more likely I am to attempt following through. If like last year, I may have one or two decent enough for further thought. Thank you for the prompts!
